Sunday mornings at my grandmother's house. Frances Washington, sitting at her mirror, doing her makeup and choosing her wig for church.
Blonde, brown, black, short or a little longer. Natural hair, braids, or a full unit. Whatever she picked, she made it hers.
Then she would look at me and ask, "How do I look?" and every single time, she amazed me.
The Meaning Behind the Name
Those mornings stayed with me long after she passed. When I started The SwitchUp LLC in 2021, I built it around what she taught me. Changing your hair is not hiding yourself. It is choosing yourself, again and again. One week a short bob. The next, long curls, braids, twists, or a whole different color. Some days a natural silk press. Other days a messy bun will do. It depends on how you feel, and that is the whole point.
